I'm moving to NYC in Feb. '07 and I'll be staying with my friend's family in the bronx until we find an apartment. Assuming we have the $$$, the paperwork, and can get approved... How long does it usually take to find a decent (I know...I know...) place to actual move in??? We're not extremly picky so finding the place shouldnt be that hard. But I dont know how many days Uncle Bronx is going to want a big U-Haul parked out front. Thanks!

NYC can be a tough place to rent in. The better places are usually gone before the ad hits the paper. Assuming that you have a job arranged, ask your employer to check around the office and see if anyone knows of any upcoming vacancies. It can take weeks (or longer) to find a decent place. Oh, and please do be picky! There are plenty of decent landlords in NYC, and plenty of terrible ones as well.

One last tip. Find a secure storage locker and put your things in there and get rid of the U-Haul. A month's rent for a storage locker will cost you less than 2 days rent on the U-Haul. And a U-Haul parked on the street in the Bronyx is BEGGING to be broken into or just stolen outright.
