about how we're one planet among hundreds of billions upon billions of planets, and we're in one galaxy among billions upon billions of galaxies?

doesn't it make you feel like things are put in a much different perspective?

I have always given that some thought.I sometimes dream that if this is true then surely there are millons of planets with life in them.I sometimes had even more wierd imaginations that what would happen if 2 people 180 deg apart from each other were to dig the whole center of the earth then what would happen?wouldn't their feet meet?since they are in opposite directions?of what is the source of the gravity?is it some huge and powerful magnet?

In the play "Our Town", Thorton Wilder explored this notion. The character Jane received a letter addressed as follows:

Jane Crofut
The Crofut Farm
Grover's Corners
Sutton County
New Hampshire
United States of America
Continent of North America
Western Hemisphere; the Earth
the Solar System
the Universe
the Mind of God

It does make you think, doesn't it?

Yes, I mean I look at it this way.

me in the house
my house in the suburb
my suburb in the city
my city in the state
my state in australia
australia on earth
earth in the solar system
the solar system in this quadrant
the quadrant in the milky way
the milky way in the Local Cluster
the Local Cluster in the Universe
the Universe in the Multiverse.

that is earth and we are atoms

very tiny aren't we? : )

Can't agree more. I love lying out in my garden on a clear night and just looking up at the stars and it makes me feel infinitely small, but large as well (if that makes sense). Truly awe-inspiring. Good question!
