Sounds like Mendel's Law of Independent Assortment ... but you didn't express it correctly.

It says that the inheritance of a gene for one trait does not affect the inheritance of a *different* gene (the gene for a different trait).

(Incidentally, this is not always true ... there are some genes that always inherit together ... this is because they are two genes on the same chromosome. Mendel didn't know about chromosomes.)
