:) Thank you for posting your question and giving all of us an opportunity to speak.
I was born in Birmingham, U.K. and came to Canada as a child. I am very proud of my British heritage, one influenced greatly by stoic British parents who recalled all too vividly the ravages of WWll, the threat of German invasion, and the American soldiers who came to the aid of the allies when things looked hopeless. While there might be some degree of ambivalence, overall, Americans have always been a most positive influence. Nothing can eclipse my admiration and respect for North American people, culture, and life in my 'now home'.
And I see evidence of Great Britain's positive influences and support here too, *particularly on September 11* with the likes of Tony Blair who came at once to America's side. Here in Canada, on the days following that tragedy, the streets of downtown Toronto were silent, flowers and American flags were placed on street corners, and grown men wept in public...
I am disappointed that some Canadians, in the aftermath of that once uniting tragedy, can be overheard making uncomplimentary remarks about Americans, and that some Americans utter unpleasant remarks about Canadians as well, particularly in reference to Canada's reticence to come to their aid for the "War on Terrorism". I hope that these events are soon overcome and that this unproductive divisiveness which serves no great cause, no great purpose will be healed...
I have traveled across North America, and am very fond of this continent and it's peoples - Native, Canadian, American, et al. Some of my best friends live in the United States, and I admire and enjoy them for many reasons, particularly their sincerity, forthrightness, candor, and warm hospitality. I love them and their beautiful country; the landscapes of the West, the 'colourscapes' of the Southwest, the charm of the South, and the history of the East.
I respect Americans for their national pride and their reverence for their nation's history. I believe that they will overcome the negative influences currently in play which serve only to undermine the fabric of a great people and a great nation.

One of the best overseas trips I ever had was to England a few years back. I find the brits to be some of the sweetest, courteous and most thoughtful people on the planet! I was given very kind compliments everyday (more attention than I get from my hubby....but there again, I'm married to a Kiwi....that's New Zealanders for ya! LOL)....very polite and very proud people, ask any brit about their locale and you will get the most informative and animated history lesson!
I really have found the brits far more accepting of Americans than my 'adopted home' of New Zealand. The fact that it's alot cheaper and closer for folks traveling 'over the pond' to the states from the UK than NZ gives more british the opportunity to meet and intermingle with us yanks, therefore giving them a chance to forge their own opinion of us 'normal folks-just like you' types.
I don't think ill of other countries and their views/ideas of the states. Unfortunately, there are alot of negatives about us as a collective whole just as there are positives. It took my husband coming over here first hand to realize what he only saw in the media and what he was brought up to believe about Americans wasn't anywhere as bad as he thought!
I still love the UK very much and without hesitation would live there in a heartbeat. As I'm only one person speaking for myself, I use traveling and a chance to be a 'mini ambassador' as such.
I treat others the way in which I would like to be treated, have the utmost respect for the culture, customs and feelings of the host country and hope people see me for who I am. Not only as an American, but as a nice person who is just like everyone else!

In Canada we have a lot of idiots like that as well. It's not the normal blue collar type but the snotknose urban white collar type mostly. It's so embarrassing how they shoot off their mouths but when you ask them for an alternative they have none. I really wish people like this would just shut up. Burying your head is the sand and pretending things that are going on in the world are just fine is not a solution.
HD rider, it's that arrogance that causes this attitude. You'd be speaking German right now if it wasn't for the rest of us. We fought and lost a lot of men doing so while you were refusing to get involved and letting this go on. It wasn't until Pearl Harbor and you had no choice so don't hurt your arm patting your own back. All you did was tipped the scales but alone you'd have been helpless .

You are awesome. Thank you so much for not hating my country! I live in California but dream of travelling to the UK someday so I'm glad there are people there who would be my friend! Of course, most of you are probably the same way - kind, accepting, and non-prejudiced. My government teacher says you're our biggest ally and I'm pretty sure he's right. So here's a free cheeseburger and have a nice day! :)
By the way, we did help win WW2 but Britain saved us first - thank you Winston and the RAF. HD Rider do some research

I think it unfair to. Think back, you could be speaking german right now. American's saved your a s s...
I can understand why brits are like they are. You have nothing going for you. Its cold and rainy almost all time, you have no real sports. Cricket? Has there ever been a Brit that was good enough to play any professional sport in America? There is no good food there niether. The roads all suck. Going to England was like stepping back to the 60's in the United States. They are so far behind. Great Britain is just a tiny little county, maybe the size of Illinois. Oh yea there were only 4 TV channels when I live there. It was the worst 2 years of my life. Don't even get me started on all the TAXES. And lets not forget the worst part, a no end in site war in Northern Ireland that will never end. Because the British government just won't let it go.
I want to know why you stay there?
