I'm actually more scared of getting old & having no dignity or pride left.

I'm not scared of dying because that's it, no more, I'm shoved in a box & buried in the ground, no problem.

But getting old, urgh, scary.

What do you think?

Old, knowing that your body will fail you, you'll lose funtion, your hurt, death is peaceful, I fear aging above all things, because I know that my skill will sag, teeth will fal out, hair too.

Aging is Evil
Death is Good.

I've never feared getting old, not even when I was young, because in those days, I always thought that ageing beat the alternative:-)

Now at a young sixty-one... I don't at all fear ageing more, nor do I fear deathm since as a psychic medium (recorded with the C of E) I know for sure that no one ever dies.

What I fear most, if i fear anything at all, is the way I die, I would rather go out like a light, just as my granddad did... pyjama top on, getting ready for bed... he just dropped at 86.

I don't fancy going like my aunt, or dad... or mum did... lingering after a stroke for ten days in a coma, semi paralysed aged 62, all wired up with tubes after amputation slipping then into coma aged 53, or, relapsing, after too much invasive surgery and then dying of the hospital bug aged 81.

It's the way we die, not the fact we die and move on to another dimension, that I guess I fear most... I've bee close to death many, many times and I spent many months as a child inside coma... its where i met my maker and discovered we don't die... but that semi awakening period that follows deep coma, of an in between stage, inside a limbo land of hearing, but unable to be heard, is a very scary place to be.

Getting old doesn't scare me as much at my age. It did when I was young but as I'm now 39 and don't feel any different than when I was 25 I think old age will happen without me realising I'm there or how I got there. Now death, that's a different story because I'm scared of the pain. Even if it's old age that gets me, the pain of all your organs failing and shutting down must be awful.

I think all of you should be scared of dying becuz you can get ran over or shot in the freakin head tomorrow. Doesnt matter if you get old becuz you know that wont be until 80 or something, but dying, someone or something could take your death right now.

When i find you on the news saying that you was stuffed in a gutter or found shot dead on the ground, dont say i was right, just say you should not have been stupid and say your afraid of getting old!

If I feared getting old I would fear life itself, because every moment of everyday, those living are getting older.
The elderly I know, and have known do not feel old, not even the 90+ friend I once had. What gets to many of them is the pain in their bodies, but that is not age, it is ailments, people can be old without that pain.
And death, I have observed that death often comes when life ceases to be a joy, but whenever it comes, I don't invite it, or fear it. If it is a nothingness then it will be painless.

I look forward to experiencing death, but I want to experience old age first, I don't think I will ever feel old.

I guess I'm more scared of dying. Not because I'm afraid of death....but because I have two small grandchildren...2 and 3 years old. I want to see them grow up. I want to be a part of their lives for as long as I can. My youngest daughter does not have children yet. I want to see her graduate from college and someday marry and have her own family. My son is 13....I have so many dreams for him. You see....it's very selfish reasons that I would very much like to live to be a very very old person.

The getting old part. I'm 42 now. When I was 22, I thought that was really old. The thing is.....the older you get....the younger you think old is........now....I just hope that I can be old for a very long time!

I am afraid of losing my dignity as well.

We live in a world that asks us to drive everywhere and a car represents independence and freedeom. I worry about my world with no control over my ability to get to the store.

We live in a world where nursing homes are scary places of poor care and neglect (NOT ALL but enough for it to seem like a terrible place to end up). I remember all of my great-grandparents dying in them with screaming patients, bedsores and the foul smell of urine.

I fear being a burden to my future children, my nieces and nephews and others who will need to care for me.

I fear the expense and the lack of income that comes with old age. Social Security is not going to give me the money I will need to take care of myself.

I hope I keep my wits and my health into my early eighties and then go peacefully in my sleep without burdening anyone within a month of my dear husband.

Great Question!!!!

I agree, getting old is scary, especially when you see how some old people are treated in retirement homes and all the Degenerative Brain Disorders they can get.
There's a Robbie Williams song with the line "I hope I'm old before I die" which I always thought was back to front.

Getting older if I had to choose, dying doesn't scare me as much, what does scare me is missing out on certain events that I look forward to like my daughter growing up, going off to school, having boyfriends and getting married, I would hate to miss out on things like that. Life is too short.

Dying of old age after a wasted life of wrinkled degradation with nothing to show but abject poverty and a badly hidden glee in attending the funerals of my aged peers.
