Look for hard drive controllers.

If you can't find IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in your Device Manager, I would hazard a guess that you haven't installed your motherboard drivers. Take a look at the CD(s) that came with your computer for them.

When you've installed them, look again in your Device Manager and you should be able to click on either your Primary or Secondary IDE Channel, and then select the Advanced Settings Tab. Here you can alter the Transfer Mode to either 'PIO Only' or 'DMA if available'.

Hope you're able to get it sorted.
