if number 3 goes near 1 number 2 goes for it and pushes it and I dont know whats going on - please help. Fish one has ballooned up, fish 2 is a big fish anyway and fish 3 is smallish. Most of the time fish 2 just swims up and down the tank all day long unless 3 goes near 1 then it flips and chases it away and pushes it into the walls and caves around the tank

Your fish are sick :(

What size tank are they in? And do you know what kind of goldfish you have? And how often do you clean the water?

Goldfish are HUGE waste producers. They eat a lot and are poop machines. A fancy goldfish needs 20 gallons. So if you have 3 fancy goldfish, you would need a 60 gallon tank. Other types of goldfish can grow to 1-2 feet, and need to live in a pond, or a huge tank (200+ gallons)

Also, it is VITAL to do weekly water changes. Even in a large tank, 30-40% of the water should be replaced every week.

A ballooned up fish probably has the disease known as Dropsy. Dropsy isn't a disease in and of itself, but it is a symptom of something wrong in the tank; in this case it is probably a buildup of ammonia because the tank is too small, and infrequently cleaned.

Dropsy is almost impossible to treat, but you could try a course of Maracyn-2 or Maracyn.

Frankly, the best thing you could do would be to find a large tank, like 55-60 gallons, and putting your goldfish in that with some nice plants, and keep up with weekly water changes.

I am not completely sure either here, but it sounds like your fish are fighting, HOW BIG is your tank??? How many gallons?? Goldfish produce ALOT of ammonia..they are very very dirty fish, they are hardy fish. That means that they can live in dirty water such as ponds. I believe that they are also a bit aggressive towards other types of fish that are smaller. If your fish does not have enough room... put him where he can fit. That is a serious situation, it can cause them to fight. When you clean your tank, move your plants/decorations around so that they do not have they're own territory and do not have something to fight over. If the big fish does not have room then he will not swim around and will just sit there, OR did you check the water?? Is it really bad?? How about the filter??

Good Luck on your Lil Goldfishies =)

Good Luck
