It will work for a while but will suddenly freeze after a while. I have checked the connection it seems fine, and have also changed to a new mouse to see if that is the problem but that did not help. Has anyone any ideas please ?

Interrupt Request Conflict / IRQ Conflict

More than one device is using CPU priority of the same address, conflicting with hardcoded instructions in the processor. IRQ's are Used for identifying priority sequence for data entering your processor. For example, keyboards have a higher priority than a soundcard, this will under circumstances cause your keyboard to continue to function as your sound card "skips" or produces a audible hiccup in your sound.

As mentioned above... Put your mouse in a new USB slot. If this does not find resolve to your issue, consider a hardware upgrade you may have had in the past little while. Any device added improperly to your motherboard/systemboard can produce these problems, especially in the cases of systemboards, which have a myriad of devices preinstalled and ready for use such as network interface cards, digital wave producers and USB hubs.

One of the icons will be mouse, so you should change it to high mobility. that way it will stop freezing. I had the same problem until one of my friends told me this.

I have had both PS2 and USB mice freeze up on me; in all cases, unplugging the mouse and then plugging it back in has always gotten it working again, no restart required. Next time it happens, try it and see...

I would suggest first try reinstalling the driver for your mouse. If you don't have disc, you can find it on the manufacturer's website or you can try and see if you can get it doing the Device Manager method.

I was told it's something to do with scroll lock, I think. Or the mouse needs replacing.

Reload the drivers of your mouse. If hte probem persists, then install the latest service pack of WIndows you are using (even if you have installed it earlier).

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
