Don't forget the searching the web is a great way to find informative websites and possible breeder websites!

I had a single gerbil (a female) and she was very sweet. If this is your first gerbil I suggest looking for one that is on the large side (I found that she was easier to handle due to her size). The biggest question that you have to ask yourself when choosing male or female rodents is whether you would be comfortable with the males rather large "endowment". That made my decision for me.

Gerbils from the same litter and same sex generally will not fight. I have a pair of girls, sisters, and they get along very well. They are cute and entertaining. I vote for females, largely because you can get a pair (or three) that were raised together and watch them interact.

My cousins had gerbils once, but sadly I never paid much attention to them. Males would probably be friendlier. (Look up 'Gerbil Care' on google)

I used to have them but now I have hamsters there soooo much nicer. Anyways either one but females and females fight keep that in mind if you want to get a male and a female sperate cages and if its male and male or female and female seperate cages because they WILL fight. Good Luck -Laura.
