I have just passed my driving test and I am in the process of getting a car. I want to make up a sort of 'survival pack' for those emergencies e.g. breakdowns. What sort of things should I include and what kind of bag should I put them in? I'm thinking things like a torch and spare batteries, things like that... if anyone can help, many thanks!

Oklatom has a pretty good list, add flares, blanket and pillows, also through in a disposable camera, pencil and paper, in case of accident. I don't remember if he had jumper cables on the list.

Reflectors would be good, a white cloth to tie on your antenna is also a good idea.

A friend had a cloth flag with reflective tape on it to hang off of the trunk that said 'send help'

Carry a cell phone, it is the most handy thing you can have in an emergency.
