yes, you can definitely overcome it. i am pretty shy myself so i at least partially understand how you feel. by the way, guess what? Alexis Bledel (don't know if you know her but she's from Gilmore Girls) was shy too. She got into acting to overcome her shyness and you can too.
But i know how scary it can be. Just try and relax before you perform and keep practicing in front of people. Ask your friends to watch you and hopefully you'll get use to an audience. Then try go for small plays and stuff (when you feel ready of course) Don't worry, i'm sure you'll overcome it.
All the best.

I think you can, but you need to believe in yourself! Decide to do it if you want it. The fear of being in front of large groups is one of the largest fears there is...almost everyone gets a little nervous...acting overcomes that fear and part of the fun of acting is getting that adrenaline rush from it! Make it a positive factor!
Get some practice in...schoolplays, speech classes at the community college etc.See if you like it, but actors practice, practice, practice, repetition and excercise, just like anything else. Thats what makes topperformers and comfortability in front of groups until it becomes second nature. Good luck and God Bless!

Yes, you can overcome shyness and acting is a great way to do it. When you've been given a role, become that character, change the way you walk, talk, move, etc - so that when you are on stage, you are the character and not yourself.
I still have a hard time public speaking (as me), but no problem being on stage (in character). Hope this helps.

Hey just act like your yahoo name and you'll do fine!!!! My daughter is into acting but always gets really nervous long before the actual play, audition, etc. but once she starts she's fine and realizes that all that worrying was for nothing. Yet she still does this everytime. It's normal to be nervous before a performance. Also, a lot of actors are shy too but not when they have to audition. If it's your passion IT takes over and you do what you "have" to. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

haha. you can't be shy girly! acting is about opening up to the audience. if you can't enjoy an audience and making them laugh and the beauty of it! well then you can't be one! you have to learn how to enjoy the presence of the actors. ask a drama teacher to help you, or take an acting class, they will help you extreamly. I've never really been afraid to step on stage, but i get neervous, oh boy do i get nervous a lot! but the key is to know the audience is waiting for a performence, and they will judge you on it. But know there are people who would love to see you on stage, and some who wouldn't. you just have to be prepared for a reaction.

Try to perform a skit or something infront of your family. Once you get comfortable do it in front of a few friends. Take it step by step. you can overcome your shyness. I did.

Hey, be as shy as you want in real life, but on stage, SHINE!
Try to become a completely different person when you're on stage. That's what acting is, after all!
