i see this sometimes in the job section in the paper.if they said white men only, all hell would break loose and the minorities would try to sue that company.there are some good jobs ive seen but when i see women and minorities encouraged to apply, i figure i shouldnt even waste my time.also i took the test for the united states post office and past it, plus im a veteran and get extra points.but i know people that work at the post office and they tell me know they are now only hiring women and minorities.thats sad that just because im white they wont hire me.its been almost 2 years since ive taken the test and havent heard anything.

Encouraging women and minorities to apply is not a crime. The assumption for some specific types of job are that only men will apply. That is why they include that phrase. My daughter is a crane operator. Do think she would have applied for that job is she did not have an indication that a woman would actually be considered?
As far as the post office is concerned, I think there has to be a balance of races, males and females in the system, and it may be that that is where the hiring of women comes in. If they don't keep it even it is discrimination. Also did you ever think that someone else may have been more qualified for the position even if you did score well.
Quit whining and go out and get a job. Maybe you could use your veteran's benefits and further your education so you can qualify for a good paying job.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! that is something to hear. but i tell you what... i know a few places that dont say that they are only looking for a particular sex or race they just skip you in the application process!

believe you me, i have applied for a job and becuase i am a women i didnt get the job... like working for a audio and speaker shop! they would not hire me.

im so sorry that you have to experience this but until the day we die this will be a continuing thing we can preach all day long but nothing will ever change we just have to take it as it goes

Who exatly are these employers who only want to hire women and minorities? Are you talking about low paying jobs like secretary or restaurant kitchen worker (which indeed are largely minority and female) or good paying jobs like fireman or stockbroker (which are still largely the preserve of White males)

Here's a thought, why don't you go down to your local landscaping company, and demand that they give you a job mowing lawns, since you think it's totally racist that they only hire Mexicans and Guatemalans for that job?

Or, go down to the nearest nursing home, and demand that they hire you as a nurses aide, because it's so unfair that only women get to bust their butt for $ 8 an hour lifting heavy patients and cleaning up human waste.

It really makes me sick when priviliged White males like you whine about so called "reverse discrimination" - since there is no such thing!!!

I didn't bother to read your blurb, but the simple answer is, women and minorities will work for less. Hey, don't blame me.

to fill a quota (as unfair as it maybe). but on the flip side, i've NEVER heard of a white guy who couldn't get a job unless he didn't want one.

Because they get away with paying women less.
