Complaints abound about Kofi Annan. His son. Problems with Oil for Food Program. Annan, slow to respond. Then came John Bolton. Wasn't he supposed to "shake" things up? So what has he done?

You talking about the Secretariat of the UN, The body to focus on is the Security Council and the International Criminal Court. You should go to www.un.org and look at the charter to get a better answer. The UN does have troubles sometimes since countries don't want to give to much power to it since that means they loose power.

Many of the answers you see people give on here are given in ignorance, so don't take them to seriously. As someone who has study the United Nations, it is the best international forum we have so far and it is in the middle of transitioning from a cold war setting to the present one as is the whole international community. It does it best to deal with terror, genocide, and politicide, but it's powers are limited since countries still hold sovereignty and the other nations don't want to breach that line in fear of their own sovereignty being breached.

It's supposed to be a forum for peace, it actually does nothing, and we pay for it
