i do, 60 dollars for a GAME then 250-600 dollars for the SYSTEM, makes no sence to me. I'll take the xbox origanal and pay 20-50 dollars for games thankyou verymuch!
in response to the previous answerer:
Im telling you, 60 dollars a game is NO WHERE NEAR the amount of money they spend on the game. the game is worth no more than 10-20 dollars/disk.

Honestly, I'm poor as hell but I don't really see any problem with it. The PS3 is a bargin at that price, that's not to say Sony's not going to make up that loss in other ways.
You can bet Hollywood can't wait until they can start selling 20 year old movies FOR THE THIRD TIME at thirty bucks a pop and you can bet Sony is getting some serious benifits out of that. But it's still getting more than what you're paying for.
The loss I've heard quoted was more like $50-$100, but I'm in no position to say for sure.
Also, someone said I Wii is $300, that's innacurate. Mine was $266.27 after taxes. That's going to pay for a HDD, a GPU, a CPU, Memory, BlueTooth Controler, and Wi Fi ready Ethernet card. Now, these aren't the top of the line ones, but you can be sure $250 isn't a bad price for that, either. That's not even to mention the costs of marketing and development and countless other overhead costs.
Instead of blaming the industry, which is really just an easy way out, let's do something proactive. When I'm bored and want a different game and don't have a lot of money to spread around, I stop by this awesome little store we have that specializes in classic gaming and does game consignment. The best games I ever played were on the SNES and I can get some really great stuff I haven't seen in years or never got around to playing starting at $9.00 a peice.
Of course if you want the newest and latest, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. But honestly, I find the newest and latest is often a big disapointment and a lot of hype that doesn't deliver the way I want it to.
So, stop blaming the industry and grudgingly paying their prices for games that could be better for as much as they cost. Make a stand with your dollars and support your local classic gaming community. Don't have anything like that in your area? Start one!

Ok... since the PS3 comes with a BlueRay diskplayer that you can find for $1,000 dollars or more in a $600 game system NO! The PS3 is priced lower than it should of been. Although I am not complaining. $600 Dollars for a system that it is a very resonable price. Now... $300 for a Wii is ok... but you have to understand what the Wii doesnt have compared to the PS3. I have told many people the same thing. $600 dollars why so much!?! Well you try putting blueray into a system and charge $400 dollars less than it should. Then tell me how much you would charge a system!

Way too expensive. All of the gaming systems are in my opinion, especially when they first come out. I waited nearly two years before I purchased a PS2, so I'll probably wait that long to get a PS3, if I ever do. The games are too expensive, too. $50 is a lot of money to put down on a game. I won't spend any more than $25.

There are going to be a large number of people who buy a PS3 at that price. I think the bigger hinderance to buying a PS3 won't be price. It'll be the quality and inventory issues they are having. If you are suprised at the price, look at the cost of IPODs, cell phones, hi-def tvs, etc... And those things are selling like hotcakes.

Tons of people have purchased PS3s. Hundreds of thousands of them. As soon as they are manufactured, they are sold.
And Sony is actually losing about $300 on every PS3 they sell. They are incredibly expensive to manufacture, and it will be a while until the price becomes affordable for most people, as the technology inside of it is so new.

well.. you get what you pay for.. if your a gamer that is. if you dont care about games.. then of course the prices are obsurd..
the PS3 are sold out the first hour or so they get them in stores.. 200k the first day and another 200k the second time around.. and games are selling also.. for $600 for the top model one.. you get wireless internet, a 60gb hard drive for storing your stuff.. and a blu-ray player which retails for about $1000+..
i for one..bought a PS3 and bought 2 of those $60 games.. regret? of course not.. you see people buying it off ebay for $2000+ for the system and games..

no it isnt, advances in technology lead to a net loss and a base price must me made to tie the net worth, if the next gen systems kept or lowered their price, they would lose money

Well, the market dictates what will & won't sell. That being said, I sure see your point. I prefer games/ systems with a few years on them. You save lots of money, and as long as they are new to you...........
