Ok well here is the history of rock...rise,fall,rise,fall,rise,fall,rise,fall,fall,fall ok now I am so hoping that history will repeat itself but rock has been going downhill for the past 16 years BEFORE I WAS BORN ok and now I mean rock has been kept afloat by bands like Disturbed, Motley Crue, and recently partially Velvet Revolver. I'm just wondering will rock return to be as great as it became in the late 80s, or is it going to be killed by rap(takes no talent AT ALL) and emo(why do you want to here I WAN"T TO KILL MYSELF over and over)... please enlighten me with what you think.

Who CARES what we are supposed to like ??? Rock is still just as important to me as it was 30 yrs ago...Nothing against modern music, everyone has a right to listen to what moves THEM... BUT, with that said, old rock & roll still rules... I am still listening to the music that moves me (Doors, Pink Floyd, Zepplin, Steppenwolf, The Who, Guess Who, Jimi & Joplin)... The music is timeless... We have a small vending business, and sell at fairs and festivals weekly... I often see young people wearing Floyd and Zepplin shirts, and I make it a point of asking them " do you just have the shirt, or do you really listen to their music ??? Almost every time, they respond that not only do they listen to them, but own most everything they ever recorded... Rock has never went away... it is eternal... It moves you and music like that will never fade away... I often wonder if rap fans will still listen to the same music when they are my age, as I do ( 51 ) .. I am STILL moved by Jimi Hendrix's "Star bangled banner" played with his teeth, recorded so long ago, depicting angst over the war in Viet Nam......Who could ever forget "Born to be Wild" ???? An absolute ICON in it's time...How many young people know that the Crue's "Kick start my heart" stole the intro from Montrose's "Bad Motor Scooter " ... Incedentially sang by a very young Sammy Hagar ??? Like it or not, rock & roll is here to stay... I am happy and thankful to have witnessed it firsthand, and invite anyone with a time machine to include me on their next voyage to 1969 so I could see Woodstock for myself... I will spring for the beer and recreational herbage....

Rock is in a rough state right now. Too bad that MTV and Rolling Stone get to choose what's cool for us then we can sift through their bands and pick what we like. There really still are some totally awesome rock bands out there. Good rock was always about being progressive (ie: Pink Floyd, Boston, etc) Well, you can always try out The Flaming Lips, Super Furry Animals, Queens of the Stone Age are good, Ween is awesome (all hail the great Ween!). It's really a matter of taste. Yes you are right though. Rap requires no more than blunts and 40s and the same beat over and over, and emo is so obnoxious that I haven't listened to the new rock stations here in town for years. Oh yeah, Beck is fantastic also.

No offense, but the late 80s have been recognized as a time period of some of the worst music in the history of rock and roll. It wasnt until the early 90s when the grunge music spread into alternative rock with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins that there was a considerable "RISE" in rock in music. the 80s were an embarrassment to any musicianship. Rock and roll was the best in the early 50s, early 60s, early 70s, and early 90s.

I understand. I don't like today's rap, or R&B, but i just start likeing alternative Rock 16 weeks ago (after i stoped listening to rock music from 50's 60's 70's <--- before my time..80's & early 90's -1980-1992) but i love some of this new music. My fave of the new alternative rock is = Breaking Bengamin - So cold-The dairy of Jane, Staind= For you - Mudshovel, A perfect circle- The outsider, Linkin Park and more. After i stop listening in 1992 im back in todays rock...give some of it a try?

I hope it won't be drowned in emo and rap. Everyone's turning towards that these days....how can they appreciate the emo " i hate myself i hate my life" and rap? Where is this world going with that?!?! Rap has become very big latelly....I'm not sure if rock will ever get that big again...maybe when everone gets tired of emo and rap it will. Never liked either of the styles.

P.S. Love Disturbed and Motley Crue. Rock on dude.

Yes, Rock will rise again. Actually it has never really gone away. As you said, Motley Crue has a lot of rock to his music. When I go to parties, dances, and even some restaurants, they keep playing Rock music. Rap is just a fad and it will fade away.

Go listen to British music. They still love rock, and it's damn fine music. America's music is run by industry execs. That's why every damn rock song sounds the same and all the bands look the same. They're pre-packaged. And that's why the rap song of the week is always so big. We are told what to listen to and most Americans are too lazy to actually go look for music on their own, so they buy into it. Seriously, pick up NME magazine and listen to some of that stuff. Hopefully it'll brighten your day.

Rock will never die because it is a reflection or symbolic of rebellion.
