Does it really matter? Keep pumping your money overseas and they all will... I don't understand how people refuse to shop at places like Walmart that buy a large portion of their products from overseas (read China) yet find it perfectly acceptable to spend $30K on a new car built in Japan (or assembled in the US at a plant in a low tax non-metro area paying the workers less wages than domestic manufacturers without the 3:1 ratio of retired employees to the current workforce). What gives? While it may seem that this doesn't answer your question, I can only assume (possibly incorrectly) that by the nature of this question, you have no faith in the companies that STARTED the automotive industry. Foreign car owners: Think twice before you smile and pat yourself on the back for buying that nice foreign product and consider the fact that you could have purchased an american car which gets 30+ mpg with a warranty comparable to a foreign unit. I don't mean to sound bitter or ranting; I just hope to open the eye of just one naysayer out there... ;) bring on the hate mail...

You tell them stewpid...you got half a brain....ever think it could be those high salaries that upper management receives...we never hear much about that...just the pay that the employees get. as far as either of the big three going out of business...never happen...they will close plants here and build them all in China...Some manufactures are already using engines built in China....imagine that...probably cost them $2.00 to build it...but you wont see any major price reduction when you read the window sticker....

I dont think ford will shut down , just scale down .

Ford spends more money on health care and retiree benefits per vehicle made than it does on steel for that same vehicle.

Olds has already bit the dust.

that's very political now that Lee Iocaca is not in the picture. as long as the unions are keeping employee wages and benefits so stupidly high, they all could go under.
