Why don't we kill everybody who is not in prison that would stop any more people going in. An "eye for an eye"- If you read further on you would find that jesus explained why this was said: because the people of moses time were "hard of heart" This attitude changed in Jesus' time- 2000 YEARS AGO!! Think of it this way:- An eye for an eye and the world would be blind.

I don't think capital punishment will help overcrowding in prisons, but much tougher policing and stricter laws would. We as a society are far too lenient and let people get away with murder (excuse the pun) slapping someone on the wrist, giving them a fine, sending them to jail for a couple of years whatever, this will not deter offenders from offending again. We should adopt much stricter control, zero tolerance and then we'd see a reduction in prisoners. However, I do agree in capital punishment too.

One has nothing to do with the other. If you are implying that perhaps some people who were initially against the death penalty may change their minds so as to relieve prison overcrowding, you are mistaken. People are notoriously ardent in their opinions concerning the death penalty, no matter which side of the fence they're on. Also, legalizing the death penalty in all the states would have no discernable affect on overcrowding, as the percentage of prisoners who are death penalty candidates is miniscule, in regards to the overall prison population. Personally, I'm pro death penalty, but feel it should only be used in cases where there is no chance DNA or other evidence can overturn the original conviction. Also, the death sentences need to be expedited and carried out much quicker: usually within a month or so of the sentence.

Overcrowding and capital punishment are two different issues.
When overcrowded, they should send the convicts to Australia
or USA like they did in the old days. Look at hem now, they have
seemed to fare quite well and proud as hell too of their heritage.
I wouldm't recommend capital punishment because sometimes
innocent people have been convicted and executed there is no
way to bring them back. Take for instance some rape murder
cases where using new technologies found that the convicted
prisoners were innocent. How do you assess 20 years of life
incacerated from your wife, children and family ?

It is not those on death row that cause the overcrowding (but yes I believe in capital punishment and an eye for an eye). The overcrowding in jails and prisons is due to to much leniency in the justice system. It is a revolving door that the same people keep coming and going from and that is what causes the problems. If jail time were more severe then maybe people would actually straighten up and fly right once they are released.

I don't think that capital punishment should ever be an option, surely the answer is to actually re-open all the prisons that were closed and give people their jobs back and also have life sentences that are actually served fully! Maybe then not so many people would reoffend if they knew they were definitlely going to be behind bars for a good deal of their lives.

Yes bring back capital punishment, bring back the cane at school, whipping in the streets - this country needs to take action against out of control crime.
A teenager will get told off for mugging an old lady, yet if you are caught speeding in a car, a £60 fine and 3 points - can anyone see whats wrong with this!
England needs a deterant against crime, bring it back!

#1...I don't believe in capital punishment cuz it's never fair...it's never straight across the board. Same crime but life for one, and death for another. Plus, there ARE innocents on death row. Journalists set them free quite often.
#2...Executing more prisoners would not solve over-crowding. Preventive measures to keep people off drugs would help as if one notices, w/ the coming of crack, the prison population doubled. Prison does not cure addiction. Believe me. I know.

When you're talking about taking the life of someone else, I don't think square-footage should play a part in the decision process. I think there are certainly justifiable reasons for capital punishment(murder, repeat sexual offenders, etc.), but killing people because you don't have anywhere to put them is crazy. That's like killing homeless people when the shelter runs out of room. Room or no room, I do support capital punishment though.

Capital punishment would not lessen the number of prisoners by very many.
Most crime is sheer stupidity and not punishable by death.
The causes of crime,(mainly poverty), should be studied and reduced.
Governments seem to be hell bent on filling the prisons anyway, with their policies on deinstitutionalisation of people from mental institutions.
They don't seem to understand that they will have to pay for these people where ever they are placed.
