I have never been to Europe yet and see all of these Christmas specials on cable from Europe and it seems as though Christmas would be much less commercialized than it is in the US...

That would be a big fat NO...sadly to say that here in the UK anyway, Christmas is just mass commercialisation....it's been Christmas here in the shops since the end of August and I even received my first cards in the middle of November....and people around here have had their lights up for at least a week now....

Well, i can just say how it is here in Estonia which is in the north-eastern Europe....
It seems it is better this year than it was in previous ones when i was so sick of the same Cristmas songs and also the decorations already by the 2nd week of December! There was just too much of it all.
Now they've just started and they are not overdoing it this time which is a relief really. Of course there are still the sales and discounts being commercialised but not so damn LOUD as it was done before.
I suppose we're good at least when compared to US or UK!

Older people seem to be less affected by the commercialism cuz they were brought up in a society where there wasn't much to buy and people were just happy to have clothes on and smth to eat. Many of them go to church on Christmas Eve but i am not all that sure how much it has to do with the actual meaning of the day, i.e. Christ's birth....

The influence of commercialism varies very much in different age and society groups.

Hehe. I do hope somewhere in there was also the answer! :)

I believe it is more spiritual in Europe. We have commercialized the Spirit right out of Christmas in America.
