Because the laws of physics were broken at one point and allowed for something to come from nothing. You could look at the amount of matter in the known universe as staggeringly large or small its all about perspective. Let me use this example you take a true vaccume that means total nothingness then you add a grain of sand into this vaccume. Now look at it from 3 different perspective points of view. You will have a larger smaller and medium sized grain of sand. Now try to imagine how many different angels and distances you can look at this grain of sand. This is just a starting point for understanding the scope of what large or small really mean. As far as I see it the darkness could exist for nearly forever but as long as one drop of something can become into existance the darkness will seem like it had never existed at all and it will look as if the universe had always existed and always will exist. I hope that helps instead of making you more confused.

That is one question that science cannot now answer. If we come up with a "theory of everything", an explanation might pop out, but don't hold your breath: Einstein worked on the problem for years, and came up with nothing, and neither has anyone else.

the amount of matter in the universe is probably infinite actually...its like: one minus infinity equals infinity....and instead of nothing existing lets just be thankful that something does exist...

How can you prove nothing? Your nothingness can be someone elses something. Therefore nothing is something and you are back to the same question.
