Simple. It's becuase mainstream media has destroyed music. We are listening to what the majority of 16 year olds across the country are getting down to. Unfortunately, they are force fed the new styles. Music is not appreciated anymore for the musicians, just the repetitive lyrics and sound... Good music is still out there though. Try "Super Furry Animals" new cd Love Kraft, or maybe the last few albums by "The Flaming Lips".

You obviously aren't looking too hard. Those are the most publicised forms of rock, look for the sub-genres you like, instead of making fun of the ones you don't like.
And what's wrong with emo?
wow, they actually wrote lyrics based on how they feel (that's more than what other people can say), I know people aren't used to that, but that doesn't mean everyone should put them down.

"rock" music has just simply evolved, dont get my wrong i hate the emo stuff, but there are some bands trying to recreate some classic feel, new avenged sevenfold - they have turned away from screaming totally, trying to bring a classic metal sound. There are bands who are trying to bring back the classic sound, but mtv and kerrang are stopping them by promoting crap emo stuff, i like bullet for my valentine, because they are straight down to it metal, music is always changing, and i think it will change again, hopefully in the better direction

Everything must come to and end... like Big Band music and Swing before the Rock n' Roll era.

Try British rock. It's not the pre-packaged crap like Nickelback and whatever other flavor of the week the producers and execs throw at you. It still rocks. It's fun. And it's good party music. Go pick up NME magazine and give one of those bands a shot. I promise you'll like it. American rock has really lost its soul.

I don't know. But all is not lost. I've heard Daughty's CD, and am very impressed. He looks very promising.
And Nickelback is still strong.
