I know what you mean, there has been a role reversale disguised as equal rights for women. Luckaly for us men they really suck at beating people up.

I think it's human nature sometimes to be violent. That doesn't make it right though. While I'm not sure whether or not this is a new thing, I do think that some men are abused by their wives. I also think that women's rights or equality of the sexes has made it more possible for men to stand up and say "my wife hits me" without as much (though it does and probably will happen) ridicule for being 'less of a man' because of it, thus making it seem like a new thing, but perhaps it's just an old skeleton learning to speak.
Often times, people think of the women's movement as something that effected and benefited strictly women and women's rights, but that's not true, if it were what would be the point? "Women's studies" can in many ways be misleading.

The media seems to be trying to make it so. Lot of movies and TV crapola seem to sanitize or even promote female on male violence, and certainly female on male ridicule and humiliation.
Can you imagine a theater full of moviegoers laughing their butts off over a woman getting kicked in the ****? Shot in the butt? Brained with a cricket paddle? Can you imagine a network sitcom where all the women are portrayed as blithering idiots and the males stand around making snide remarks about it?
Sure, I know movies portrayed women as dopes for years, but is the media now interested in being an accurate reflection of reality or trying to redress past grievances?
I guess that has to be the justification. Doesn't mean it isn't harmful horseshit, though.

this is definitly an intersting concept that i have given a lot of thought to, I am here going to talk as a genralism, this is not 100% true, because what you will find is that, men are genrally stronger than women, like i said its very genrallistic, because, they are the physically stronger sex, like in the animal kingdom, you only have 2 look at sliverback gorrillas to know what I mean, and as men, we want to win the affections of a female, and then we become really quite protective, again, you only have 2 look 2 the animal kingdom, to see this behaviour, and no man is going to win the affections of a female by knocking 7 bells out of her, so considering that, in socitiy men are not going to beat up women, A friend if mine is a DS (dectective seargant) in the Metropolitan police service, but he started off as a PC (Police constable) like everyone in the UK police, and he said that they are taught Ikedio, which is very effective, and he said, if a male gets agressive, then they know they can use that training, and they will win, and be very confident, but for male officers, they find it very difficult to deal with violent women, because they don't want to hit them, or even just get heavy handed, so female officers can deal with all aressors, though, it often happens that male officers have a tendacy to play the hero and step in, which is not really nessasery most of the time. (so they have a tendacy to just grab one arm, and cuff em quick before it escliates) again going back to the animal kingdom, it never really happens does it, so i think this is a tendancy that we see all the time, and always will, but different generations will put different perspectives on it, just the way we are wired.

Men are on average, 40% greater in upper body strength, even when matched in weight. A young man who can not "wrap up" a woman not attacking him with a weapon, is deficient, in some way. This is not Hollywood, this is the real world. Woman do not go around seriously assaulting men. Check the statistics. Even with the much vaunted rise in female assaults and prison population increase, they have a hard time maintaining the 10% level, in comparison to men. The overwhelming majority of the time, a man can subdue a woman with out too much harm being done to the woman.
PS Kate D, I am shocked at you figures too; socked at how far off they are. Are you trying to make an ideological point? If not, submit proof of your figures.

It's never right for anyone to hit another person (playfully is another thing, as you said). And I don't think that women hitting men amounts to an assertion of "equal rights." That's ridiculous! NO feminist I know thinks that the advancement of women's rights and equality includes the privilege of physically abusing men. (It's funny what people will attribute to feminism, like physical abuse, taking away husband's children, etc.) And it is illegal for men AND women to physically harm someone, although I understand that many men might not want to press charges (embarrassment). And I know that there are women who will take advantage of the social bias that only asserts how wrong it is for men to hit women (and I would GUARANTEE that these women ARE NOT feminists). But is it RAMPANT? I see no evidence for this.

In 2004 in america 35% of reported and substantiated(proven) domestic and family violence victims were men. I was shocked at this figure, always thinking that men were a very small percentage of violence victims. Men dont report violence as much as women either becasue of shame, lack of services for men and in some cases they dont realise that the violence they were subjected to is illegal. The figures have steadily increased year after year. I think this is because people are starting to realise that men are also victims of domestic and family violence.

its not a new thing. more people are just admiting to it. its not right for anyone to hit someone else or to abuse them in any way (mentally, emotionally, ect)
people also talk more about this because someone first decided that gay men can be protected from domestic abuse and str8 men felt like they can talk about their abuse now that some cities have shelters for both abused males and females
some of the statistics are being put out now and were out out a lot a few years ago to distract people from other issues.I'm not saying that this is an issue to ignore but the media doesn't give attention to unpopular/unexcepted problems like this unless they have to due to politics.

that is true. We discussed this in Sociology class and the general agreement was that men are more than entitled to claim abuse from women, but how many men do you think would admit to being abused my their wife?
Most men would be too embarassed to stand up and admit that they are victums of violence because it would "make them less of a man."
it is a problem though. Stand up for your rights men!!!

as men, it is our job to protect our female companion with all our might. we should never use that to harm them. and if they start hitting us, take it. obviously don't beat them to a pulp instead, but u can at least get her off u. we aren't becoming dummies for women to hit. they only hit when they are mad at us, and hopefully, we realize that what we did is wrong and just take it
