I just bought a pre lit christmas tree but the lights do not blink. I want to add clear blinking lights to it ...is this safe to do?

The lights that come with the tree do work but they do not blink they just are turn on. that's why I want to add another new set of lights on top of those and these new ones do blink.

Hi. I have a pre-lit non-blinking tree too. All you have to do if you want to add the new lights instead of buying a clear/red-tipped blinker is just make sure the lights do not get hot to the touch. The newer the lights, the less likely they are to get hot, but you should check first to be safe. I add about 500 more lights each year to mine (the same pack year after year, not 500 more each year, haha). My uncle is an electrician, and he has cleared it for me. So, this is really more his advice than mine. Have a great holiday and enjoy your beautiful tree!

Instead of a plug to make it blink, all you need is a little clear bulb (Christmas light) w/ a red tip, those are the blinkers...you probably can find them at any retail store. They always come in w/the extra lights in a pack of christmas lights if you can't find them sold anywhere else by themselves.

There should be lights with a red tip in the pack of lights that they give you. Just replace one light with the red tip light on each set, or you will have one section of your tree that blinks and the rest of your tree wont.

It's safe to add extra lights. . . .I think the plug people mentioned is only if you're adding it to a strand of lights. Because you don't have a plus to add it to, it won't work on prelit trees I don't think.

you don't have to buy any more lights.there should be a bulb with a red tip on it in a bag.with the replacement bulbs.thak that one and re place it with on of the clear bulbs.and see if that doesn't get them to blink on and off. good luck

I dont see why not. As long as you do it in the way that youd do it on a real one. NO HOTWIRING!!! \
And you shouldve bought a REAL tree. Where is the holiday spirit in a piece of plastic that doesnt have that fresh christmas tree smell and the little things that get everywhere and you still find them next year? I am serious.
