Alright, i have issues with inlaws!
I have talked to some friends and i want to know if i'm crazy or if my father in law is crazy!
He and I have never gotten along, there always seems to be something i do wrong and seem to offend him everytime i turn around.
I wrote him an email because i don't want to argue with him because it's affecting my marriage, but he writes back with these reasons I have offended him. They are quite stupid!
They live at the moment over seas, and they were at our apartment for Christmas last year, (note: they always seem to think they can take over my kitchen when they come!) They were making a huge roast, and they wanted baked potatoes. I'm not a fan so I offered to make both, some baked and some mashed. Well he thought that was a silly idea. Why can't we all eat baked! I still made some mashed and we all had a great supper. Then i find out that he was upset with me because instead of asking my mother in law for a recipe to a rare dish i called my

Grandma who has made them a lot! Well he got really offended that i didn't ask my mother in law! Because she is such a 'great' cook! I figured who carries recipes in their back pocket to tricky recipes!? I was hurt!
He also was upset that i hadn't found meaningful employment since my husband and I had moved.
I had a temp position for 6 months, i was aware they were trying to find someone more qualified as i was just tying them over till then. When my 6 months were up I found out i was pregnant! But not only that, i had a molar pregnancy. I was extremelly sick, tired and very moody. Then in late july i had to have surgery. and has to recover for 3 weeks. After that time i had a friend who was going on maternity leave in december and needed someone to watch her little girl from september to december. I took it and have been doing that ever since and I got accepted into school in January!
Sorry this is a bit long and a rant, but am I being crazy or is he?

he sounds like a control freak to me that is not the least bit happy ....but he probably isn't happy with himself so he takes it out on you..I wouldn't let him. I would kill him with kindness. I don't like the word kill so just act of kindness to him..It will probably make you feel like it is driving you crazy but if that doesn't help, I don't think anything will help him. Good luck....

When you're in someone else's home, you eat what your host plans. You make no other suggestions, you don't cook other dishes. You appreciate the efforts of your host. You should have learned this quite some years ago. The time to make mashed potatoes is when your inlaws visit your home.

You owe your inlaws an apology. A sincere one. And from now on, in their home, you do what you are asked and eat what you are served.

Be grateful that this mess, unpleasant as it may be, is the worst of your problems. Obviously, you want to avoid the inlaws as much as possible, and if they are overseas, that should not be difficult.
