last night on direct.gov.uk I submitted a form to request a d1 form for a provisonal lisence, how long does it take to recieve one? How long does it take to recieve the provisional lisence once you post your application?

I need to know the best (and possibly cheapest) driving schools in the East London area - I want to do possibly an intensive course - maybe around 2 hours (some days more) each weekday. I firstly want a taster 1 hour session before I commit myself!

Is there a chance that before christmas that I could recicve my provisonal lisence and have at least one driving lesson?

Mine took two weeks by post, but I picked the form up from the Post Office so I don't know if you'll be delayed by the form being posted to you.
I found a driving instructor in my local Yellow Pages. I rang round a few and had a taster lesson with one woman that i really didn't like (she was very arrogant and abusive, not exactly confidence building!!) and then I found the one I passed with who was fantastic. You might have to try a few companies though as not all have the time slots you need, or they might not have vacancies. Maybe you could ask your friends who they passed with and contact their old instructor? Good luck!!

the quickest way to get the form is to go to your post office they should have them in stock. This normally takes around 2 weeks to come through, so Xmas is a possibilty. Try the AA for driving schools and avoid BSM. Have any of your friends learnt to drive, who have they used?

took my provisional about 2 weeks to arrive, you will most likely end up waiting about a week for the forms to arrive though.
