I just recently purchased a 1991 Toyota Camry. I am wondering if I should leave the button on or off for normal driving. Your feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Most manufacturers recommend turning the over drive feature off when driving mainly in town or in the hills. This feature will be constantly going back and firth from O/D to normal while driving under such conditions and leads to burning out the over drive box on the transmission. Hope this helps

I drive in over drive all the time and I have 403,000 plus miles on my 1988 S-10 Blazer . Far as pulling something or going up a hill the transmission (if working right ) will change it's self . Beside driveing in over drive looks at the gas and money I saved . I did replace the transmission ,but that was at 375,000 miles .

Leave the overdrive button alone for best gas mileage. If the light appears, then the overdrive is off.

It likely won't do much harm, but would be better to leave it out of overdrive while you are doing start stop driving around town.

Unless you are hauling or towing, or always driving in hilly areas, you should always use overdrive. Leave it on, you should get better gas mileage.

Overdrive in most automatic vehicles is simply 4th gear.

O/D saves you on gas, the only time you need it in the D is if your pulling something or going up a steap hill
