purplebulldog: I am asking because there are a lot of "young" children at my son's school who like it...too young to have liked it before. I am very aware that it isn't the "in" thing for teenagers who are desparate to be cool.

It's not fad-popular, but it's still liked. In fact, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl was the fastest selling Nintendo DS game in Japan. Also, the show is still going after 8 years;that means something.

Sure enough although with any group of kids there will be the current cool thing. Three months ago, my sons friends rediscovered Pokemon cards after they hadn't been cool for over a year. Good thing I kept the Pokemon cards even after he was into Yugi-oh. He is seven.

Pokemon has lost its crazy popularity, however, as my 11 year old son recently discussed with me, there are still some kids who are crazy about it. There is a game you play with the cards, and if you are into it, then it is still the rage. Those kids tend to be into gaming a lot, with video games, etc. You will most likely know if the child is really into it, and if they are, they really are.

Best of luck.

It justs depends. Up here a huge group of kids go on and off with being obsessed with it. And in a few places I've been it's still really popular. And for the most part, the gameboy games are still rather popular. the cards are not though.

Not popular per se, but still a good game. I played it years and years ago, when I was in elementry (I'm in college now) but will still grab my old game boy if I'm going on a long car trip or flight. Nothing can waste hours like it. If you are going to get it for a kid, stick with the original ones, or the remakes of the original ones. (Red or Blue, or Fire Red or Leaf Green.)
I recently found my friends copy of it on his desk. Turns out, him and his roomate had been talking about it, and both dug their copies out to play each other. At 18, I'm the youngest out of the three of us, and neither my friend nor I are really gamers.

No. I use to love Pokemon but now it's just dumb. I played it for 5 years. But now it's out of date except with the younger kids.

Not so much, no. There's always ones who are late though. I heard of a girl who still is on the Nsync thing who lives in Nebraska. Tsk.
