No. The companies don't know all the virus, and can't even remove some of them. A lot of the time people must remove viruses manually. Worms, Trojans, virus's,etc. are created everyday. They couldn't be fully behind this.

Of course not. There are plenty of jerks around who make viruses for free - why would the anti-virus companies risk their reputation by doing such a thing?
Do the doctors make new diseases to gain customers?

It is there job day in day out to scan the web to find new viruses. They aren't putting them out there.
That's like saying "Does a tow truck company cause wrecks just to stay busy."
A new realm has been created with the web, and with that realm new problems arise and new opportunities for new companies such as anti-virus companies to do business, it isn't there fault but somebody has to clean it up.

That is like asking if the Cancer Research and Treatment services give you Cancer so they will have customers.
The obvious answer is NO!
There are more than enough scum in this world to supply all the Viruses and Spyware the foolishly unprotected demand.

One big conspiracy theory? Nah, they have their own watchdogs that detect any new viruses that come up.. hence the quick responses with patches whenever a new virus appears thats not been detected before.

I have an adware virus on my computer at the moment that slipped through norton 2007. It slows down my computer and even though i have yahoo as my hompage set on my cpu, everytime i open internet explorer, it is redirected to a virus removal company site.
I have managed to track down the virus file on my pc, but even though i have removed it, ity is still on one of the 2 accounts on the computer.
You can't tell me that they didn't put the virus on my computer, now they're telling me to pay $US99.99 to fix the problem.
It's fcukingf bullshit!!!!!!

In a way they do. They publicize vulnerabilities and proof of concept exploits. In doing so they show the bad guys how to break in.
Fortunately, they haven't been able to point out any easily exploited vulnerabilities of Mac OS X, so nobody's been able to produce a successful exploit in the five years it's been around. It makes me wonder if people who haven't switched to the Mac yet are masochists!
