They say you can pick it up at any parts store but what is it called?

first off, what kind of car do you have? You may not need any tool. Many filters are just two hoses into/out of the filter. Some may be bolted to the frame or fender. Some have filters inside the carburator (eg, old chevys). Then there is always the oddball vehicles from Europe and Asia... but most of those are pretty basic, too. I worked in parts dept's and never sold a tool to remove a filter. Good luck on that one!

Depends on what kind of car it is.
Someone already said a fuel line quick disconnect tool, which is correct, but they come in many sizes and styles.

Here's a plan: call any auto parts store, explain to them what you're looking for, and they can tell you what the little tool is called.
