i had this computer for 5 years and basically use it for hours each day. anyways, its windows XP; Hewelet Packard computer and i love my computer and all but its wicked slow, has A TON of viruses/spyware that come back every week even after i deleate them, has a broken cd-rom drive, and has overheating/fan problems.

i have 2 more years until i go off to college and my grandpa gets me a good laptop.

anyways, is it worth it to go get a new one for just 2 years?
and if so, whats a cheap one that works good to use for 2 years that isn't too hard for me to understand?

Get a laptop now and ask geek squad (in best buy) to move everything from one computer to the other, also if u buy the laptop at best buy u get a free copy of windows vista (the new operating system in the mail. if you are gonna wait the 2 years, save up for a good laptop and not an ok one. Last for viruses get norton anti-virus and for speek get more memory (more ram as its really called)
good luck!

You are TOO funny! Normally I rate a thumbs down on people who come right out and say to format your drive, but in your case...this is exactly what you need to do. Reload windows and get avast (free antivirus) before you put another file back on it. Make sure you do all the windows updates too.

Now, IF you are comfortable doing it, go to a computer repair shop (or even best buy) and get a can of the high pressure air for cleaning computers. Open the case of your computer, take it outside (a must) and give it a good spraying where you see the fans. If you have one of those portable vaccum cleaners that has a hose, go ahead and use that too - but nothing powerful like you would use in cleaning a car. Just treat it with care, and you will be fine. Put it together, and you're good for another 2 years.

It may be possibleto upgradeyour PC. Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

No I would start defragmenting it every day and do disc clean up and down load a progaram called avast it will stop the viruses and maybe invest a little in to a exteral cd-rw which will work as a cd rom drive

Ps. You can get avast at www.avast.com ,and it is free

Try looking at a Dell B110.

They are very reasonably priced and a very good basic computer with enough speed to do what you want except hard core gaming.
