Oh I can totally feel your pain. My baby was measuring at 8.5 pounds at my 38 week appointment. I was terrified that I was going to have a c-section because of her large size. My doctor told me that they don't induce because of size anymore (which I think is crazy). So, they let me go to 41 weeks and then I was induced. It took some hard work, but I was able to push her huge 9 lb 7 oz (15.5 inch headed) baby out (first pregnancy). So the moral of the story is: you can do it! There's no reason to induce earlier or to have a c-section. I know this is TOTALLY NOT what you want to hear, but it's the truth.
BEST of LUCK with your labor and delivery!! You'll feel like a rock star when you're able to push that big ol' baby out, I promise.

You never know, but believe me, I know its hard but allow the 41 weeks to come if the baby hasnt yet because when they induce, they will hook you up to a monitor for an hour to see how many times you contract. You may not feel them, (I didnt and I contracted 22 times in that hour) but if there are more than 6 in the hour they will not induce. They will start a Pitocin drip which helps the contractions to move along, however it is a great deal more painful. If you don't contract more than 6 times they will give you citotec either orally or most likely vaginally to ripen your cervix then give you pitocin. Mine was 8 lbs 11 oz and she was forty weeks. I had a perfectly normal delivery and hardly tore. you will be fine. They want you to go into labor on your own because it really is better for the both of you. Many new moms go past their due date so don't worry, just enjoy the rest of the pregnancy because you will miss feeling that little angel inside you and SLEEP all you can, believe me!! My daughter was born in mid october and I could use a nap!! good luck and cherish that angel of yours.

Since you are already dilated and past 38 weeks it is safe to induce labor at anytime. Your doctor may want to wait because there are increased risks of having to get a cesarean done if you induce labor. You could wait and let your body go naturally or you could tell your doctor that you feel strongly about trying to have this baby now. You could also try some natural at home induction methods like Red Raspberry leaf tea, walking, black or blue cohosh but not in large amounts because too much can hurt the baby, or just have fun and have lots of sex (semen has been proven to ripen the cervix faster in the last few weeks of pregnancy).

Well You have to rememebr there is the 2 weeks leeway of being 42 weeks. after that placenta usually starts to deteriorate a little, making it unhealthy for you and baby. C-sections in my opinion are no biggy. I tried a natural birht but because of circumstances had to have a c-section. I am expecting again, and if I can will have another c-section. The doctor will wait if you tell him, but he will advise and I also advise not to wait past your 42 week mark. Good luck, and remember alot of women now adays dont have a natural starting labor, alot of them have to have some help from a nurse or doctor to get the whole thing going full streigth.
Good luck and congrats on your great christmas gift. It is the best kind.

They are waiting because it would make labor easier on you if you went into labor on your own. I don't think waiting an extra week will cause you to have a c-section. I went 41 1/2 weeks with my first. She was only 6 lb. 9 oz. My doctor has guessed the weight incorrectly on most of my babies. Good luck!

you can stay pregnant for up to 42 weeks. the doc probably doesn't want to induce you because it is safer to go naturally. ask your doctor if there is anything you could do naturally to bring on labor. sex is always a good way, but not always comfortable. good luck and congrats on the baby

41 weeks no thats just crazy its gonna kill you from pain sorry not trying to scare you but i can almost give you a 100%
guarantee that your baby will be at that 8 lb limit plust different situation but i had a preemie and they had to induce labor he was only 2 pounds so if you wanna induce it yourself at 37 weeks or your due date have sex honestly it works for most people and its totally safe congrats and have a great xmas with your baby!!!!

I guess they are just hoping you will go into labor naturally. Its safe anytime after 37 or 38 weeks to induce. Its just probably how your doctor does it.

Wait to go into labor naturally, while so far c-section is safest, I'd think any woman should have their baby naturally until a they need to be emergancy c-sectioned.

Most doctors do that. My doctor had told me that she doesn't let anyone go past 7 or 10 days late, can't remember which it was, I had my daughter on my due date.
