Obviously I know how to make a horizontal line but how do you insert a vertical line without making it part of a table?

I appreciate your answers. The key above enter makes a vertical dotted line which is better than nothing but not what I'm tryin to do. The Drawing Tool route draws a line but then I can't seem to add words! Any other suggestions pretty please?

Click on View | Toolbars | Drawing

When the drawing toolbar appears there will be an icon for a line. You can use this to draw in any direction.

For a lot of questions in MS Office try the Help Menu. You would be surprised how many answers you can find.

|||||||| Just above the "Enter" key is a vertical line and left slash. If you click on the "shift key" you will get the vertical line.

Hope that helps.

There's a line tool which should allow you to do that.

Look in the Drawing Toolbar.

good luck.
