Have you ever walked out of a restaurant without paying? What was your excuse for doing a "dine and dash"? Did it bother you that the server had to pay for the food you eat out of his/her tips?

I've been a server, so no. And I never had anyone skip out on me, but it happened to some of my coworkers. Large party, (30 people) all separate checks, running around to get change, the party all moving around, switching seats, people saying they paid already, someone else was paying their check, etc. It really makes me mad. I used to be a gift shop manager for Cracker Barrel, it happens ALL the time there.
There was a case recently, a teenager was caught after walking out on the bill, the restaurant took her to court and the judge ordered her to do dishes at a womens prison for a day. And made her pay the bill at the restaurant too. Bet she'll think twice before she does that again!

Never, although my girlfriend used to be awaitress and there were several nights when she told me that Applebee's would be packed and a large group would sneak out on her while she was too busy to do anything about it. Her manager would always try to make her pay for it, or anyone else, claiming it was the employee's responsibility. I didn't know adults were payed to babysit other like-minded adults.

NO WAY.

I'm shocked that a restaurant would have a policy forcing the waitstaff to pay for a patron's bill out of his/her tips - they don't make that much money to begin with.

Rock on corporate America, way to stick it to single parents and college kids again.

I have left a restaurant without paying, but I hadn't been served/ordered anything except water, so it didn't matter.

Never, and I never will. I have too much respect for not only owners, but the servers. If you can't stand on principles, you can't stand on anything.

I've never done that... I can't imagine anyone who WOULD do that.

That's why IHOP and places like that have started requiring your drivers license before they will serve you.
