Have you checked the fuses?? Some of them may have been tripped, if thats not the case you should have an electrician check out the wiring!

In some houses a given wall outlet in a room may be connected to the wall switch. If the switch is in the off position, the outlet does not work. Plug a lamp or other cord appliance like a radio to the outlet and flip the wall switch. This should tell you if that is your problem.
Also, if the house is on a breaker system, then one or more of these may have been turn off. Double check that they are in the "on" position.
Beyond these simple checks, you will probably need to get someone who is competent with electrical service to check out the system.

Check the breaker box -or- fuse box, whichever you have. If its not the breakers tripped or fuses are not blown, then there is a potentially dangerous short in the wiring.
If you have breakers - some of the switches will be slightly raised more than the others. Flip these raised ones all the way over and back again.
IF YOU HAVE FUSES - TURN OFF THE POWER LEVER BEFORE CHECKING THE FUSES!

Circuit breakers could be tripped. Check in the breaker panel.
If approximately 1/2 of the lights/outlets don't work and all the breakers are active, you can have a bad back plate in the breaker box.
This will need an electrician to fix.

Check the breakers first to see if any are tripped, if not, it is probably a recepticle somewhere not feeding through or a bad junction. Possibly a bad breaker but not likely. If your not comfortable with checking the dead recepticles for power feed through then your best bet is to call an electrician.

There may be a circuit breaker tripped but you may not be able to see it. Push each breaker to the on position and if it moves than it is tripped. Turn it off and back on.

Are you sure they all worked, did you actually try them? you'll have to call an electrician otherwise.
