I have to agree, both are very, VERY important jobs in this society. Teachers have a bum deal. They get fairly nice salaries, but have no benefits, no retirement to speak of. Depending on where you work and if you specialize, either profession can be a source of "burnout", but at least teachers have the summers off, which can give you the break that is needed to recharge the batteries.

You should not choose either based on salary. Either of these professions, if you are to be successful in the long run, requires a passion for the work. Your choice should be based on that before salary, benefits or anything else.

In nursing school, 10 years ago, I had 2 years of pre req's and then 4 semesters of actual nursing school. I graduated with am ADN and make pretty good for my area. The thing with nursing is that there is a need, and depends on your area of expertise, and where you live. I've been a nurse 10 years, I do specialize, but I dont really work full time either. Because of what I make, I can afford to do that though and still have flexible hours for my family.

A nurse by far - my sister attended 2 years of school, worked a year as an LPN, and then went to school for another year. So 3 years in school and she started as an RN for $60k/year. Very in-demand as well with many hospitals paying signing bonuses of up to $17k. Good luck.
