It depends on what bank you opened the account at, and how long it's been at a zero balance. If its negative even 1 cent, there may be a problem. Let me know I work for Bank of America.

Your bank should notify you if they are going to close your account. Maybe you could ask a friend or family member for a $1 to deposit in your account so that it wont be closed.

if your account remains inactive for a few weeks they eventually force close it.depending on the bank you may get charged a fee for whats called a dormant account meaning there hasnt been activity in your account
