Right-wing radio host Dennis Prager wrote a column earlier this week claiming that Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim elected to Congress, had “announced that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but on the bible of Islam, the Koran.” Prager claimed this “act undermines American civilization,” and compared it to being sworn in with a copy of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf.”

But the swearing-in ceremony for the House of Representatives never includes a religious book?

That Prager, such a copycat!

2 years ago, when Bill O'Reilly found out some college course was put 'The Koran for Dummies' on it's required reading list, he went off the hook:

"This is outrageous. If I had been in college during WWII, would I have been expected to read Mein Kampf? We shouldn't be learning about our enemies, we should be killing them!"

Glenn Beck out right accused Keith Ellison of being a terrorist on national television, despite the fact that even the CIA has no file on the man.

Conservatives: They love to hump the leg of fear.

Ellison drives conservatives and some liberals crazy now that he's a congressman. When he was a state senator from Minneapolis he went virtually unnoticed. Right wing talk show hosts will say and write anything to fan the flames. They think this is their big chance. I really wonder if Americans hat Muslims all that much. We open loop holes in immigration laws to bring Muslim nurses here from Malaysia and The Phillipines. Muslim Engineer are welcomed from Pakistan. Muslim software and high tech workers from India. Keith Ellison's district has more Muslims in it than Methodists. They drive cabs, vote, pay taxes, go to school, own businesses. They're Americans...Prager doesn't care for their religion. He acts like the sky is falling because one of "them" got elected. Never mind this one is home grown and married to a Christian. Prager wants you to worry about him and his religion.

I think this is just awful and I would have hoped we were all done with this sort of thing. Substitute Muslim for Communist and you get the Red Scare all over again. This man's religion and his right to worship is what's being used to whip up and excite the mob and it is very sad. Islam is as American a faith as any other. In America we have no state religion. Still I guess we shouldn't make too much of it. Some of us are old enough to remember the horrible anti-german sentiment that swept the country before the war and I don't think we're there yet, but I might feel very afraid if I were a muslim or an Arab Christain and all this hate was directed at me...Oh dear!

Much to do about not much. Just a fun subject.
Bill Clinton used the Bible and still lied to God.
Lying to God is why he got nailed for perjury.

I imagine why Prager criticized Ellison was because we still have Freedom of Speech.

Pager is right and according to your argument "But the swearing-in ceremony for the House of Representatives never includes a religious book?" Then why is Ellison demanding the koran?!!!

I don't know anything about the swearing in, but the good few Jews in American politics wouldn't be sworn in on the Bible because they don't believe in Jesus, so then what's the issue with swearing on a book that refers to Jesus as the Spirit of God, and supports Jesus being born from a virgin. There's a political agenda at the present, mainly fuelled by the Jewish lobby in America whose loyalty is to Israel and NOT the US, to demonize Muslims, and from what I see, they have enough control of the media to make all these fabrications.

There are all kinds of lies being spread about Keith Ellison because he is Muslim. Although Christians, Jews and Muslims elected him and really liked him and wanted him to represent them. There are lots of people fueling the fire of hatred against Muslims. It seems that these people follow a religion that teaches them it is o.k to lie and hate.

This wasn't controversial until a "right-wing radio host" made it so?

Hint: Imagine if he (Ellison) were a Republican.
