They say 1 galon per fish. But I bet a half gallon tank would be plenty for a fish.

I have 30 gallon and when ever I go to get a fish they ask me the size of my tank and they say they say that a gallon per inch so I can have 30 inches worth of fish. So I guess the answer to your problem is how big is your guppy, but I do suggest you have at least 3 guppies because they are schooling fish and like to be with others of the same kind. If you have any other fish in there be careful because they will eat the eat of your guppy. I doesn't harm the guppy, but they aren't as beautiful. A one gallon take is perfect, but you should have a 3 gallon and 2 more guppies. I hope you enjoy your guppie(s) and this works for you.

That one inch of fish per gallon rule is not accurate. It's one thing if you have a 20 gallon tank. You could probably put 15-20 guppies in a 20gal.
But they need a minimum amount of room to swim and live in, and to have clean water.
For example, you could say that a 6 person family could live in a 3 bedroom bungalow with a kitchen and a bathroom and a living room. But could ONE person live in a tiny house with HALF a bedroom, HALF a kitchen, HALF a living room and HALF a bathroom? You could, but you wouldn't be very happy.
So, no, a guppy cannot live in a 1 gallon tank. Instead, get a TEN gallon tank, and 5 get guppies.

Exactly what Betta_Fishy said. DO NOT repeat DO NOT get a bowl for a guppy. If you can't support a guppy, give it away and buy a betta. That will do well in a bowl.
Just keep in mind: UNDER NOOOO CIRCUMSTANCES should you ever buy a bowl for a guppy.
You know, they say goldfish can live in bowls. Umm, NO!!! SAME THING WITH GUPPIES!!!!
IT'S CALLED AMMONIA AND AIRATION AND SPACE peeps!
Just follow my advice (AND Betta_Fishy's) and you'll have a healthy guppy.
And people everywhere think fish can live in a bowl or small tank and don't need much space. Really, they can't. The only fish that can live in a bowl is a betta.
Cheers!
Have a healthy guppy! Buy a larger tank and get more! That will make your other guppy some friends!
Your welcome

Yay Zoe! My hero!
No fish needs only a gallon to live in... A fish in a bowl is like the family bum. He's always starving, stinks of his own excrement and lives in a cardboard box. Sadly gazes at you eating your delicious lunch, then you knock the bowl over and end its life cause it asked you for some change.
Guppies are tropical fish, easily noted by the vibrant colours across them, this means you need a heater. No really you need this, Stop arguing and fork out 10 bucks.
Guppies are alive, they need a filter.
STOP ARGUING GO BUY ONE!
You cant connect these to a bowl, so now you're stuck with 30 bucks of hardware and a bowl.. Now go buy the aquarium you should have bought a month before you ever imagined putting fish into water.
Cycle your tank, accept the loss of your guppy if you are too prideful as to return it to the petstore admitting you havent the foggiest as to what you're doing, wait till your water chemistry is alright, then go buy a new one.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!?!? Guppies CAN live in bowls, but they'll die in days of ammonia poisoning. A betta can live in a one-gallon bowl, but NOT a guppy. Even 2.5 gallons isn't too good. I'd recommend at least 5 gallons. And no offense to the other people, but they know absolutely nothing about fish. If you want your guppy to die, go ahead. Put it in a bowl. But I'd recommend getting a 5-10 gallon (I got a 10 gallon with filter at Walmart for 28$) and 2-7 more guppies. Guppies like being in schools. And bowls do not provide any airation. Your guppy will die in a bowl. Please do not get a bowl.

One gallon should suffice...even for maybe 2 or 3. I always use a 10 gal. just to give them more room. Just be sure to keep it clean and not overfeed as it will cause the water to become dirty and unlivable quickly.
