I would suggest getting up to Scotland and join in the Edinburgh festivities, the Princes street party on hogamy is one of the biggest in Britain and people from all over the world travel to it. Check out the Edinburgh tourist information centre for further details.

As you are students you will have access to the local school/college. Ask around and you may find people are willing to show you what |Christmas is like here by inviting you into their home. Alternatively get together with your student friends and have a meal and celebrate New Year in the company of your friends with the TV prog. Good Luck.

depends where you live, i usually stay at home christmas day, cook the turkey and spend the day with family/close friends watching old films on tv, eating ourselfs silly and having a few drinks.
New years i used to go to the local pub (i now have a baby so ill be staying in) as the clubs charged double to get in and the drinks were so expensive.
If theres a few of you, have a new years party at your house, tell everyone to bring some drinks and put music on and just enjoy yourself, if your students you'll be wanting to save a little money too

most people will spend christmas day with friends and family, having a meal together and sharing presents etc etc. in the run-up to christmas every church will have a carol service, and its always worth going to one of those - they can be pretty traditional and nice.
as for new years eve - there will be parties everywhere. most people go out and celebrate, and count down to the new year.
im assuming you are at university? ask a few university friends and they should be able to help!

You have neglected to say where you are now. However obviously London is a wonderful place to be this time of year, but the Scottish events are also worth a view, take you pick.

Good Luck.
