This is a VERY good website for a beginner to learn from. There is so very much to Astrology that it's IMPOSSIBLE to explain fully here as it will take up way too much room.

A horoscope is a chart - it is a map drawn of the position of the planets in the sky ( or rather on the Ecliptic ) for any point in time, the map being erected from a particular place on the planet Earth. The idea is that any point in time and space has a particular quality unique to that time and place.
You can erect charts for people ( natal charts), events ( mundane charts ) or to answer particular questions ( horary charts) which are erected according to the time and place a particular question was posed. Basically anything that can be narrowed down to an exact time and place can have a chart erected for it.
How does it work? How long do you have?
As one learns to read charts, like any other study, one gets more out of astrology - fun, serious, learning about yourself and others.

Well I've been into New Age, because it's more of a family thing. Horoscopes are quite fun, in a daily basis kind of thing. I wouldn't revolve my life around it. Actually, there is some kind of truth in it if you believe in it. Charts are the same as Horoscopes, your daily horoscopes are based upon charts which are based upon the stars. Reading, do you mean in tarot, i-ching? IT all depends if you believe it or not.

as for astrology the different types are: Natal Chart, Composite Chart, Synastry Reading, Progressive Chart, and of course the Daily Transits.
