I think the best place to work for any sixteen year- old is at the mall so after work you can go shopping, some of the best jobs in the mall are at the clothing stores like Abercrombie &Fitch, American Eagle, Papaya, Hot Topic, Tilly's, or any other fashion place becuase then you can use the money and your store discount to save more money, so pick a good place and one that has clothing you might want to wear. These all probably start off with minimum wage but it is unlikely that you will find anything else that is better at your age and time limits. Also another place that is great is the movie theater becuse you can get a raise, from minimum wage, within a short time and watch all the new movies and get your friends in for free.

Here's the thing; different cities pay different rates. If you live in a big city where the cost of living is high, you might get paid more, or not.
We *could* give you the name of the store, but keep in mind the people answering these questions come from everywhere and thus may not necessarily help you.
As a first job, would you want to be a grocer? It's not working at a fast food restaurant. How about at the movies as an usher? You get to watch free movies, and that was my brother's first job.

When I was 15 I got a work permit from school and I was working for Sears as a sales person in the aces deptartment.
It worked out well because they were willing to work around my school schedule and they respected the laws that enforced teens certain amounts of hours to work and the fact that I had to be home at ten.
Another thing was that I got commission and that was a big deal at the time because I was making minimum wage so I had a bigger income than other kids that just worked for some other places.
Some departments like aces, shoes and jewelry pay commission. I dont know, Im a money person so it was good.
What ever you do...dont work for pier 1 imports or some place like that. The candles and stuff are pretty heavy. I used to come home and get straight into bed with back pain. I was only 18.
Eventually when you get older you will go to college and start working bigger and badder jobs but we all start somewhere.
It helped me out because now, ten years later...the sales experience and associating with all kinds of people who walked into the store helped out a lot. I turned out to be a collection agent/credit specialist I make probably more than 5 times what I was making there and I still get a commission. Funny thing is, I learned out to calculate commission and what not at Sears.
but thats just me, like I said Im a money person. You may want to work some place that you enjoy working at. One advise though, make sure you go to college and dont let the money get to your head. The money you make now is chump change compared to the money you will make when you get out of college.
Its good that you want to work at your age while your mind is still fresh, it will give you a good sense of responsibility and you will develope and mature more mentally and will learn more than the rest of the kids that just kick it depending on their parents for allowance all the time.
I hope this give you some kind of idea.

department stores( Sears, Parisian, JcPenney etc) , book a million, barnes and nobles. I don't know how they paid. But, I know a lot of 16 work at those places part time while they are in school, and during the summers and school breaks they work full time. I know a good place where you can work for the summer is at an bank, and I don't know they paid tellers $8-9 an hour. I hope this helps.

try a large chain store like walmart, or jc pennyin the States, or zellers or the bay in Canada. the pay will be more than minimum wages, and most large chains are very good at accepting students. Some even have a university scolarship program available to business students.

Working your local movie theatre at the mall, or a clothing store (H&M, American Eagle) are all good places, but you'll only make minimum wage. We all started out at the same place - minimum wage.

Banks -- you can get a job as a part-time teller, maybe as a Saturday-only employee. You can also try convenience stores, gas stations, grocery stores, movie theatres, or retail stores. It depends on your skills and interests.
