How do those things make the baby move?

If you get concerned that you haven't felt your baby move, drink a cold, sweet drink and the baby should start moving around within about 20 minutes. The baby responds both to the cold and the sugar.

You are asked to lie on your left side because in that position your baby gets better blood flow from you.

I don't know why you would be told to eat peanut butter to get the baby to move, but peanut butter is recommended for the mother because it is a good source of protein, which is important for energy.

They tell you to drink OJ and lay on your left side because.....

OJ has a lot of sugar and this will usually get baby moving.

Laying on your left side is good for blood flow to your lower body and also for your blood pressure. (SO that also means getting more oxygen to baby since it's good for your blood flow.)

Also, you're supposed to lay still when trying to do the kick count because baby will be more likely to be active if you aren't up moving around and rocking him to sleep.

The high levels of sugar in these foods/drinks will get the baby moving. Laying on your left side provides the most amount of oxygen to your baby.

OJ is high in calcium and folic acid. Folic acid is important for the baby's brain development in the first trimester. Laying on your left side is best because it increases blood flow and oxygen to the baby which is crucial. You can lay on your right side but its just better for baby on the left.
