It depends on how you pronounce it. Stress the second syllable and it's feminine. Stress the third and it's more masculine. But if there's no other way to tell if the character is male, fuggedaboutit.

Not really masculine. It just makes me think of Avignon and the French who I don't think of as very masculine.
