Your real question is why don't we have a multi-party system in the sense that small parties like the Greens or Libertarians can get enough clout require the big parties to take them into a coalition and listen to them. There are several reasons. 1. our elections are not paid for by our taxes with spending and advertising limits as they should be so big money has big clout. 2. The dumb Electoral College system means votes are by states and not by who gets the most votes nationally. 3. The rules of Congress give ALL the power to the party with the majority in the House and the same in the Senate. So the Republicans for the last six years ruled Congress with an iron hand (we'll see if the Dems do the same now). You know, parties are not mentioned at all in the Constitution, but they, with the approval of the courts have taken over our political system in a way that only the two parties run it now. It can possibly be changed now because there are more and more independent thinking voters.

Voting for the lesser of two evils has become the norm. It is unhealthy because more and more voters are staying home to protest. Then you really get what you voted for or didn't . The fix always seems to be in early on. Those with the bucks keep on campaigning.....Not ideas. Ultimately you are so sick of the candidates maneuverings and manipulations you can't stomach them any longer. This is democracy.

The term "lesser of two evils" is only an expression. The candidates are not evil. Neither candidate may appeal to you, so you don't have to vote for either. Just leave that line blank when you cast your ballot.
If you are in the US, try to remember that we do not have a democracy. Ours is a representative republic. If you choose not to have a sayso in who represents you, that is your democratic right.

Yes that happens often in Canada! It's how I vote when there is no one good to vote for! I'm
not a Liberal at this time.. I've went Conservative, cause liberals had no focus and none of the fringe parties could win! I won't be
voting Liberal!
Oh some will say Canada's not democratic it's either conservative or Liberal

No it cant and why we continue to allow it to be this way is beyond me. We have allowed corruption to rule and we have the power to take back what is lawfully ours! Civil disobediance has worked in other countries as well as this one from time to time, demonstarte for honesty in politics would be a great start, petition for recalls, demand crimainal prosecution for all bribe taklers, check your reps, by email and sanil mail call them when they do the dirty, write editorails to the editor, make your voice heard!

your right and if the Democrats would allow campaign finance reform we could get back closer to a democracy but because they know this they wont approve it.

Yes some republicans too but it is a sticking point for most dems.

Don't like the options? fight hard for one you do like... that is your right, and your responsibility to your country. Yes, I'm sure you'll get your *** kicked, as most of us would, but that is ok. Its the process we must respect and uphold... thats democracy in action.
