Ok this sounds really weird. I'm a girl so I don't know anything about this at ALL. I've heard somewhere that Jewish guys need to have a special surgery on their "privates" so they can urinate? And that like every male has to have it at one time or another. Is that true?

Jewish and Muslim men have this barbaric procedure done as a religious rite. It has nothing to do with urinating. Some misguided Americans also have it done to their babies in the totally incorrect belief that it's more hygienic, but it's done a lot less now than a few years ago, fortunately. Men born in Europe are unlikely to have had it done - it's illegal in Sweden! It's also not usually done in Asia, Africa, or Latin America, so most men are intact, and they are just fine.

There are a few cut men who say every boy should be mutilated, but that's just "misery loves company." There is no good reason to do it and a lot of excellent reasons not to - do a search on "Resolved Questions" for more information.

Its called a circumcision and they cut off the foreskin at the end of the penis, exposing the head. This is usually done in America or in some religons. They don't need to have it done to urinate. In America it was done because people said it was more hygienic. More and more people are not getting circumcised. Not every male has it. Its their choice as they get older or its the mother's choice when they're born. I am circumcised and it just whatever. Is it really that bad to be circumcised? Why do people call it mutilation? I'm circumcised and if someone isn't i don't care. Im not miserable. People say after a circumcision that you lose some nerve ending in the foreskin, and sex is a little bit less enjoyable. I don't know how it would feel to be not circumcised and its the last thing on my mind.

circumscision, the removal of the foreskin on a male penis.

yes, it is a jewish religious rite, whereby the foreskin is removed soon after birth.

however, it has nothing to do with urination, the only time when the foreskin causes problems with something like that is if the person has whats called phimosis, whereby the foreskin is far tighter than normal, and gives reason for circumscision.

circumsiscion is not more hygenic, as the foreskin is designed to retract to allow washing and things like that, it is also covered in no less than 20,000 nerve endings, making it -very- sensitive to stimulation during sexual encounters.

people refer to it as mutilation because it is taking away a piece of somebodys body, and many people believe that it is a choice to rest with the person, not their parents or a religion etc. there is alot less circumscision nowadays, as people are discovering that it is not as hygenic as it once seemed, the foreskin acts as a natural barrier to protect the organ, and the inner layer secrets natural liquids which aid in healing and cleaning. that is one of the reasons where eye-skin grafts and things like that often use part of the foreskin, because it actually helps the area to heal!

it is not true that every male has to have it, there are far more uncircumscised men than there are circumscised, but that doesnt make circumscision wrong either.

it is comparable to vasectomy.. it isnt always necessary ( though in some cases, it can become medically neccessary). but a choice some people take, and some people dont.

hope that helps

boys are born with a piece of skin covering the head of the penis, called the foreskin. Jewish males, and most American males, are circumsized at birth (this is a surgical removal of the foreskin). it is not neccessary for urination, and for jews is done as a part of their religious beliefs. some uncircumsized men end up having the surgery later in life, by choice or due to injury to the foreskin, but a man can live a normal, healthy life uncircumsized.

It is really weird!

It is called circumcision, and it is not needed for urination. It is just an initiation hazing like making frat boys eat raw liver.

Most of the males on earth (85%) are uncircumcised and will never need to be. They will live their lives just fine that way, as will their partners.

Only jews, moslems and the u.s. circumcise baby boys. The nations of Europe do not circumcise boys, infact several of them have outlawed it. Currently less than 55% of infant boys are being circumcised in the u.s. England quit circumcising boys in the 1950's, less than 1% ever get circumcised there when they are older.

You are talking about being circumcised. Before the dawn of modern procedures, men had foreskin over the head of their...well..you know. Like other areas of the body, it is subject to being dirty and smelling bad if the guy does not stay clean, not to mention getting infection and having a breeding ground for bateria. The procedure is usually done at birth and the child does not really feel or remember it. If it's done later in life, it hurts a whole lot more. Jews, I believe, do not believe in this practice.

Some religions discourage it as well. Some say the man is less sensitive during sex etc, or that it will be bigger, but most of that is myth.

Personally...it's just a lot more sanitary to have it done.

no, that is not true. Some infants are circumcised in order to make the foreskin shorter and easier to keep clean. This is a tradition in the Jewish religion, and is done in a ceremony at about the age of one week. its called a bris.

It was a covenant made with God...and it is more than probable that it was based in medical need. Imagine if you will men and little boys who were not circumsized wandering the desert and not having water to waste on things like cleaning your privates on a daily basis. Sand under the foreskin was probably very painful and caused infection...
