Right now, I feel like this:
The highway WAS my life until one day, someone didn't see me in time, and they ran over me.
I'm the dead armadillo, laying in the middle of the highway with the yellow paint stripes over my flat body.
My direction will be which ever way the dead animal "picker upper" is driving.
