Kind of, unfortunately both are materialistic and superficial. We need money to survive, pay the bills... I have yet to figure out why looks are important to some; there are certain factors where it has become an obsession, especially with the media. Wear this perfume, and you'll get a mate, Victoria's Secret- 10 percent off our best selling bra's ( why 10% if they are best sellers?! ), buy this Maybelline because your eyelashes need to be full.... who comes up with that stuff? Just an observation.

Yes, sometimes I think that is first, because people base so much on looks. For example, say you meet someone, you won't at first be attracted to them on their personality, it is based on their looks. now, that is not to say you won't like them later, once you get to know them, but everything is based on looks. Also, I think it influences a lot of decisions about who gets what job, who is treated kinder and more fair, and stuff like that!
It isn't right, but that is how things are! Just look at celebrities, they have looks and they pretty much are guaranteed a part! My son even made a comment earlier, asking me if i think anyone could be a singer. He said that basically if you have good looks and not even that good of a ovice, but a certain image, you can be, cause they will take you in a studio and make some crap song! Jus t look at Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson, no talent, but their looks get them a head start!

I don't really think that you can rank things like that. It really depends on the group that your in. Some people are going to care more about looks, some more about power, and some about money. It really depends on the objectives of the groups and the general mindset of the collective. So my question would be, what group are you talking about? Social status in terms of upper and lower classes is determined in terms of have and have nots, if you don't have the right image though I guess that could be a real downer.

no...I think the first thing after money that influences our social status is the people you are friends with...many people judge others by who they hang out with

Maybe so, because alot of people judge looks before considering that maybe not the best looking people could be the most wonderful loving caring and honest partner they may ever meet. People are often very judge mental. its sad. It's what's inside their heart that counts!

No because I know some pretty ugly people that are high in the social status. It is the people you know and how well you know them.

No, I would say a person's power in a given milieu is before appearance. A cop has high social status when he stops you - simplistic, but exemplary.

No. It's the preppy Ivy League stamp they put on our resumes that get judged first. I graduated from BCC and am a temp. I know a guy who dropped out of Harvard. This man is given whatever job he wants, quits the next week.
