Have you noticed that like 99 percent of musicians have voices that are only as good and oftentimes worse than your friends? I feel like the vast majority of musicians are simply lucky...they are no more talented than the vast majority of people I meet. They got a break and now they make a sinful amount of money. Seriously, who thinks Fergie or Gwen Stefani or Omarion or Rihanna have more talent than anyone else? They don't. They can carry a tune, but so can most people. This is why I really don't have much repsect for singers/musicians...bc most don't do anything the rest of us couldn't do. I also hate people that idolize musicians who write their own music...who cares as long as the song makes you feel good or you respond to it in some way. Anyone agree with these sentiments?

You can thank MTV for that.

Billy Joel said a few years ago that if he had to make his debut in the modern day, he wouldn't have made it (or something to that effect). The music business, more than ever, has become an image business where look is king, and talent is nice, but not necessary.

MTV might be the worst thing to ever happen to popular music. Sure, several artists have gotten national exposure that might not have otherwise had it, but that goes both ways, and I'd say countless more artists didn't get their music heard because they didn't look the part.

Video killed the radio star; MTV killed musical talent.

lol...it isn't luck,
believe it or not, most musicians/actors we love to hate were doing a heck of alot more work for where they are today than we think. At least alot more than normal people, which is why they are where they are today.

but no one ever mentions this, yes, popular music is a looks industry. And if your in the right place at the right time you can make it.

just saying, I tried to break in and realized Im nowhere near ready for this stuff, simply because I have no real background in it. Dont sing, play an instrument or even know how to act. That would take serious work on my part and Im not really that dedicated, so I decided to do something else

okay so the answer is,
yes/no.

Face is the area that concerns as a results of fact it quite is the area you specifically could handle all day- an time-honored physique might suffice. I seem to savour a competent physique too, yet specifically in a "yeah i might shag her" kinda way. Face continues to be what quite counts once you're questioning of a few thing severe. inspite of the undeniable fact that, a under time-honored physique is in no way sturdy. One's defecit is made up for by character at that element. An unattractive physique could be somebody who's extremely out of shape, disproportionate, has undesirable epidermis, etc. i do no longer supply severe precedence to boobs or butts, even however the two or the two are sturdy (ideally the latter in my very own opinion lol)

Umm i agree at some points
But looking at a Rock N Roll industry, especially in the 70s/80s and early 90s, they are mostly talented.

Have you ever noticed that in today's music they have programs that fix you voice, Led Zeppelin had to play it live and there are mistakes but people love his stuff because he actually played it.
people who like Fergie just doesn't have an ear for music, that is all computerized sure she sang it but properly not as good as it is on the CD. sure it is cool that people actually sing their songs that they wrote, I don't think that we should idolize them. my brother got an offer to write music for a living - so I am sorta neutral.....

Pop singers today must be great looking and be able to dance too. Great musical artists of the recent past like Janis Joplin or Mama Cass probably wouldn't make it today.

I may agree that many popular artists are not that talented. I strongly disagrree that they're lucky however. The vast majority work their asses off to get their "big break".

I don't think you give musicians enough credit. I mean, look at a lot of the people who go on American Idol thinking they CAN sing, but in reality they can't. And I'm sure not everybody can write a good song, either.

I honestly don't care how great someone's voice is. Otherwise, I wouldn't have Bob Dylan on my mp3, as I can't stand his vocals. Same with Bright Eyes. Lyrics are definitely more important to me. Fergie and whatnot have crappy, dumb lyrics, which is why I dislike them. And artists who can write their own, well-written lyrics gain my respect.

I don't listen to mainstream music anymore, so it doesn't matter to me.

Same here thats why i catch my-self listening to rock music more than pop, r&b, hip-hop, and stuff like that. Anyone can sing but the real talent comes in when you can write, sing, and play.
