Methanol. CH3OH. Poisonous alcohol. Often called wood alcohol. Essentially a molecule of methane with one hydrogen substituted for a hydroxyl group.

Methanol is a poisonous alcohol that's sometimes added to commercial ethanol products to deter people from drinking them to get drunk. It's best known for causing blindness.

Chloroform (trichloromethane) was used as an anesthetic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It has since been replaced with safer alternatives.
