It depends, this is a great chance to either show off your frugalty or get an excuse to get the latest and greatest electronics.
LG makes a VHS/DVD recorder combo that has a feature called "One-Touch Dubbing." Basically, you put the vhs in the vcr side, hit the button, and if youhave a DVD on the DVD side, it automatically copies the VHS over to the DVD. Simple, just one press of a button and thats it.
Also, if you have an HDTV, that same LG unit will "upconvert" your standard definition dvds to a high def 720p or 1080i, it wont look truly hi definition, but it will be close.
Dont have an HDTV? So what, now you are prepared for it when you get one! That LG is model number RC199H, and can be viewed at BestBuy.com here:http://tinyurl.com/yctutj
Dont want to spend $300? Samsung and Panasonic both also make a great one-touch dub DVD/VCR combo player.
If you want to save some money, and are willing to get a little physical with wiring and technicalities, you could go with a DVD Recorder of any kind, and just plug your VCR into it.
In order to do that, you will need to buy a DVD Recorder, then plug your VCR into the TV via RCA cables (the red, white, and yellow ones). Then, plug your DVD Recorder into the TV the same way, and have it record whats on the screen. Only some work that way though.
You could also wire the DVD Recorder into the VCR by plugging the VCR into the input ports on the back of the DVD recorder, then when the VHS plays, start recording.
So to sum up: the simple way to do it is to get a DVD/VCR Recorder Combo like the LG I mentioned. Or, you could mess with wires for a while and get just a DVD Recorder.
And again, the best DVD/VCR Combo Recorders will be LG, Samsung, and Sony. Well Panasonic makes a decent one too but I've seen a few returns on that one.
If you go more technical, the DVD Recorder by itself will work, but its going to be difficult.

You can buy a DVD to VCR recorder and do it yourself. This way you can edit the parts that you want in or out of your movie but this can take a long time. You can also take it to a local store that can do the job for you.
