Call the Theater Department of the Universities in your city.

Ask for names and phone numbers of acting teachers and acting schools.

Option #1.) Check out collegiate theatre arts classes. Most universities/colleges have a theatre department and you don't have to be a "full-time" student to take them. Also, they usually have GREAT varieties of classes to take from basic acting classes studying different methods (Stanislavsky, Hagen, etc.) to period acting (Greek, comedia d'ell arte, etc.). It would also be helpful to take classes in other things such as Stage Makeup, Directing, or Designing to help give you a little edge over other actors. You would definately be a big asset (and a LOT more valuable) to a smaller company if you can help with different aspects of a production.

Option #2.) Check and see if a local Community Theatre group has classes. They usually have childrens' and adults' acting classes along with maybe some costuming or stage makeup classes. Basic things, but still usually good quality. (And cheaper than taking them from a college or university!)

Good Luck and Best Wishes!

Drama does count as an acting class. Also, look in your phone book for "Theatre school," "Drama," and "Dance school." Many dance academies also have acting classes. Be sure to ask your drama teacher for recommendations as well.

If you are in high school, get involved with your school's forensics team! It is SO much fun, and helps you to improve your acting ability.
